Professional expertise, interests and work history:

I believe in making a living by making a difference. I enjoy working with people and helping them learn something new that makes not only transitional, but mostly transformational changes in their lives. My passion is about sustainability, future generations, and positive changes in this world.

From 2009 to 2011, I worked as a consultant for the Alumniportal Deutschland, the GIZ Project – Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (German Society for International Cooperation), and as the Deputy Head of the Foundation for Local Democracy and European Integration of Y. Panejko, Kyiv, Ukraine. I was also a consultant for the Ukrainian Standardized External Testing Initiative (USAID contractor) and a Global Policy Fellow of the Institute for Higher Education Policy, Washington, DC, USA, in 2007-2009.

In 1995-2006, I held a lecturer position at the Institute of Journalism of Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University. In 1999, I was appointed as an Assistant Professor and later – as an Associate Professor. I developed and published 8 course curricula and 5 books. I am also an author of numerous scholarly articles, and more than 500 journalistic materials.

In addition to sustainability, my area of expertise includes research in international disaster and emergency policies and communications, with a specific focus on recovery after nuclear disasters. The senate at Ryerson University approved my new course, “Disaster & Emergency Management: International Policies and Disaster Coordination.” I have developed a case study on Chernobyl and other issues, which is offered for the Certificate in Disaster and Emergency Management at Ryerson University. Chernobyl Foundation, an international non-profit organization based in Toronto, is building cooperation with me as well. I am also interested in consultancy and other related opportunities.

My experience in communications makes me strong in outreach and sustainable marketing campaigns. I am also the Sustainability Working Group Co-chair at the Mentoring to Placement for Environmental Professionals Program with the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority.

Furthermore, I have been the visiting scholar at the Institute for Environmental and Sustainability Communication, University of Lüneburg, Germany, and in Environmental Journalism Program at the Graduate School of Journalism, University of California, Berkeley, USA. I also held positions as the Information Assistant at the Urban Environmental Governance Program and Sustainable Development Program at the UNDP Ukraine, as the Associate Professor at Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University, Ukraine.

Current work activities:

Currently, I am an instructor in the Sustainability Management Certificate program at Ryerson University. This position allows me to follow all the latest trends in sustainability world-wide. I am looking for opportunities to expand my teaching and research at the university level.  I have therefore taken part in the University Teaching Development Program with the Instructional Skills Workshop at Ryerson University. Furthermore, I am interested in teaching online.

The Project Management Global Sustainability Community of Practice hosts a PMI webinar with me as one of the speakers titled  “A ‘Triple-Bottom-Line’ Sustainability Project Evaluation Methodology”.

Educational background:

I have received my Ph.D. in journalism (wrote dissertation and conducted research on communication as a tool of environmental policy) from Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University, Ukraine. I also hold M.A. from the Hamburg University (Germany) and Aarhus University (Denmark) after participating in the Erasmus Mundus program ‘Journalism and Media within Globalization: The European Perspective’ and Diploma in Journalism from Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University, Ukraine.

I have completed the post-graduate course “Higher Education and Research Management” at the German University of Administrative Sciences, Speyer and the Environmental Policy Course at the Fern University Hagen, Germany.

I successfully completed many professional development programs in sustainability, including:

•  International Program on the Management of Sustainability, Sustainability Challenge Foundation and TiasNimbas Business School, Zeist, The Netherlands;

•  Urban and City Development Strategies in a Globalized World, Central European University, Budapest, Hungary;
