Biography:

Since 1999, Noureddin Driouech has worked as a Agronomic Consultant and Tutor of Education and Training activities of the International Master course on Mediterranean Organic Agriculture at CIHEAM-IAM of Bari. Dr. Driouech provided administrative assistance to worldwide visiting professors, and technical and scientific support to hundreds of post-graduate students from different Mediterranean countries. He teaches Organic Agriculture Principles and Concepts of Agrecology and Sustainability, EC Organic Regulations, Basic Organic Research and On-farm Indicators of Sustainable Agriculture. His interest/research focuses mainly on Innovation in Education and Training in Agriculture and agri-foods sector, Sustainability issues, Agriculture and ecosystem services.

At present Noureddin is covering the position of Technical Coordinator of IAMB Distance Learning courses and also coordinating the CIHEAM-IAMB Alumni Network (FTN). His main duties include networking and management, editing MAIB Alumni publications and conducting follow-up research studies to assess the impact of IAMB Education/Training and Research actions on students’ career progress and pathways. In addition he is technically involved in the Instructional design process and in the organization and coordination of IAMB distance learning activities.

His organization CIHEAM-IAMB, with 13 Mediterranean country members, collaborates closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Italy (MAE), the Italian Ministry of Agriculture (MIPAAF), Regional authorities (e.g. Puglia Region), international and national organizations involved in cooperation for development, in particular with FAO, the World Bank, UNDP, the European Commission, ICARDA, OADA, GIZ of the German Federal Republic.

Noureddin was born in Casablanca in 1972. He graduated as Agricultural Engineer at the Institut Agronomique et Vétérinaire -Hassan II of Rabat Morocco.  He has a Master’s Degree in Integrated Pest Management of Mediterranean Fruit Crops at CIHEAM-IAMB. His thesis, entitled “Assessment of sanitary status of olive in some Mediterranean Countries”, researches biotechnology that directly contributes to test and validate advanced molecular techniques (dsRNA extraction, PCR, molecular hybridization) to detect olive virus infections. He got a PhD degree in Environmental Sciences at the University of Tuscia-Viterbo Italy, researching “Annual self-reseeding legumes and their application into Mediterranean cropping systems” that helps solve issues relating to organic farming practices and low-input cropping systems. He also holds certificates as Auditor in organic agriculture, crop production, animal production and quality control systems.

He has been a visiting researcher (spring 2005) at the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas ICARDA and visiting scholar (summer 2006) at the University of California Berkeley, Department of Environmental Science, Policy and Management. He conducted experiments and research on cover crops and 15N isotopic analyses for quantification of Biological Nitrogen Fixation (BNF). He speaks Arabic, French, Italian and English.
