Harshad Karandikar

harshad karandikarHarshad Karandikar is currently a senior coordinator for the Human Wildlife Conflict Management & Capacity Building in WWF India. Among his job duties include Conservation & Communities and Capacity Building Initiative. In Conservation & Communities, he conceptualized and implemented pilot Human Wildlife Conflict mitigation strategies. He further strengthened livelihoods and energy access initiatives in priority landscapes. In Capacity building initiative, he developed strategies for operationalizing WWF India’s capacity building initiative for Forest Department Field Staff. He also developed a manual on patrolling and law enforcement for Forest Department frontline staff, and the manual was recognized as the official Training Manual for Jammu and Kashmir.

He received a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Pune in 2005, and received an equivalent of an MBA form IIM Kozhikode in 2010. Before his WWF India work, he worked as a consultant to the Office of Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Council on Skill Development for the Planning Commission in India. In addition, he was the assistant manager of corporate strategy for Larsen & Toubro Ltd, a company that is one of India’s largest and most reputed engineering and construction companies.

In addition to his interests in environmental topics, he enjoys marathon running and writing in his free time. In fact, he has completed 7 half-marathons. He also writes as a freelance writer and contributes pieces to “Faking New”, which is an Indian leading satire news site.
